Toshiba 20HL86 20" HD-ready LCD TV Deals

Our Bedroom is 16' x 12' and we needed a good all around HD ready, LCD Flat Screen TV for the room, and this 20" fit our criteria nicely. It sits on the dresser and blends into the rest of the room well. The Instruction Manual for the remote control was well written & easy to understand. The picture and sound quality is just fine for our needs. We dont have the HD set up yet, so I can speak to that, but this is a very nice TV for the money.

I have larger Toshiba LCD TV's that I use HD on and love. THis is a smaller version that fits nicely on a kitchen countertop under the overhanging upper cabinets. The picture is quite good without the HD converter and the sound is very good. I spent $15 on a better cable (at Radio Shack) than the one provided and that helped a lot with picture quality. One negative: it does not have a digital tuner built in. No ad will tell you this, although Toshiba has a sticker on the front of the TV to inform the consumer. This is true of any brand.

OK. I've essentially written the same review on Amazon and a few other vendors selling this product. I "still" believe that it's a discontinued product because Toshiba is pushing it's 120 mghz product and has entered into a relationship with Sharp for future sets. This may well be a "good marriage". But from my perspective, I've had this set nearly two months now and have read the reviews and specs on it for several months previous to purchase. The price now (well under $ 2,000) is an EXCELLENT buy..."for now". The set is thin where it counts and HUGE where it counts! People literally stop talking when an HDTV channel is on when viewing this set. It's that good! No banding. No ghosting. No "blurring" with fast action (tennis, golf, hockey, you name it). Regular DVD replay is excellent and you have options to improve the picture quality of those DVDs, if you love movies! Standard TV is good and more than watchable. Just go to Best Buy or any other retail outlet and see any of the "Regza" Toshiba sets (which may soon be discontinued). They truly outshine all the competition ... Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Phillips, et.al. Then you can SEE for yourself. But if it were me, I'd buy this same set all over again. You're going to pay a lot more and get a lot less otherwise, if you pass up this Toshiba line.

I recently purchased the REGZA 52RV530U LCD HDTV. I am very happy with the performance and picture. The screen size is manually adjustable which I really like. My Sharp Aquos adjusts automatically to the input it recieves. Overall the picture quality is excellent and I believe matches the higher price sets. Fast motion is in no way blurry and I can't see any blurring at all.

Beautiful set I would highly recommend.

I have owned this TV for a little over 2 years. It was a great TV while it worked. Recently the right 40% of the screen stopped working, with the image being replaced by a colorful kaleidoscope of vertical lines. After confirming that the problem was with the TV and not the cables or signal source, I looked on the Internet and was surprised to find how frequent this problem is with 52" Toshiba hdtvs of varying designations. What is also consistent among the many people who have had problems is the lack of support from Toshiba. I haven't bothered to try myself -- yet... I still might -- but it doesn't look good. Obviously, this specific TV isn't for sale any more, thank goodness, but if you're looking at reviews to get a sense of Toshiba's track record, please buy from a different manufacturer - one who builds products that last longer than their warranties and that they stand buy. Don't risk getting stuck with your very own Toshiba Lemon.

This review is from: Toshiba 52HM84 52-Inch HDTV-Ready Projection DLP TV (Electronics)
I researched televisions before buying the 52HM84. I compared DLP, LCD and Plasma. I decided on the DLP due to its size and picture quality. I had narrowed my research down to the Mitsubishi and the Toshiba - since these both us the HD2+ DLP chip. The Mitsubishi had a glare on the screen and the Toshiba didn't. The quality of the picture is outstanding. The technology to clean up messy analog signals is outstanding. I could not be happier with this purchase. I highly recommend a buyer to purchase the matching Toshiba ST5284 stand for the set. Together - the set is perfect! GOOD WORK TOSHIBA!

Before signing and accepting delivery of any Toshiba DLP, be sure to check the screen to make sure that the coating on the inside of the screen is uniform. On mine, there was a circle about 10" in diameter that you can see in certain lighting and even when the TV is off! It will appear lighter than the surrounding areas at times and can be annoying. I called Toshiba and had a service man come out and even though he acknowledged that this is common, Toshiba will not replace the screen. I would have given them a negative 10 if it were possible just because of their attitude. So, look at the screen VERY carefully before accepting or purchasing. If you see this problem, refuse to accept it. Or else just buy a Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP to avoid the problem I have.

I have upgraded from a high def Toshiba 4:3 projection TV. I ordered this TV from BuyDig as they gave you 10 days in home in case something was wrong with the TV. Currently their price is the same here but with threshold free shipping and $99 White Glove service. Amazon will have you deal directly with the manufacturer in the event there is something wrong with the TV upon delivery. At first, I was a bit disappointed with the picture until the cable company came to bring a second HD box for the 4:3 TV thatI had moved to the bedroom from where the new TV was going. The cable Tech set the HD box to normal with 1080i and the picture was amazing. As good as any picture I had seen in the stores. Whether it was DLP or plasma. I am not using the DVI hookup rather I am using the High end composite cables. The unit is also hooked up to a home theater. I have the TV set up in the basement which has always been the TV room in the house. Im glad thats where it is as I was able to move the sofa back to a viewing distance of between 11 to 12 feet. Too close and its overwelming. If the TV had been in a normal size room I would have selected the 52" monitor. I had selected the Toshiba over the competition due to the higher end chip and my previous experience with Toshiba. In addition, in relation to the other DLP models it was less expensive with in my opinion a better picture. Finally, I purchased the matching stand from ABT electonics as they asked $289 which included $20 shipping. The matching stand is a must if you are spending the money on this TV. The only thing I will continue to reseach is getting a replacement lamp so when the day comes when that goes I can change it as the instructions to change it appear simple. Enjoy this set!

Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch Deals

This review is from: Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black) (Electronics)
I live in a "fringe" area for OTA reception in a densely wooded neighborhood 30 miles from the cities and have a rooftop antenna with a pre-amplifier system. I currently own Hitachi, Sony and Olevia TVs with built in ATSC tuners and find the Toshiba 19AV500U has the most trouble maintaining good reception from several of the HD channels. I've tried hooking it up to the other antenna leads in the house and results were the same so I've concluded the tuner sensitivity is not as good as my other TVs. However, when locked-in to an HD channel the picture quality is excellent. The Toshiba is very attractive with the piano black bezel and adjustable stand. The interface is simple and intuitive, setup was a breeze. I found the "DynaLight" feature annoying as it seems to randomly change the overall brightness ever so slightly too often. At first I thought there was something wrong with the backlight because of this "flickering" effect. I discovered that DynaLight is enabled by default. When I turned it off in the Advanced Video menu the problem was resolved. Overall this is a very good budget priced LCD HDTV from one of the best names in the business. This is a darned tootin' fine TV.

I ordered this TV to take advantage of the HDTV channels available over Comcast Cable in the San Francisco Bay area, without having to rent Comcast's pricey cable box. It fills the bill perfectly.

Using the default settings, the picture is sharp and contrasty. There's plenty of sound volume. The screen hardly reflects light at all, which is nice since we have a lot of windows. The Natural picture size setting chooses the proper picture width all the time. (I've never figured out why some people view everything in full width, even if it adds 50 pounds to all the people on the screen.)

I got a scare when first hooking it up. I ordered it only after a Comcast agent verified that with the built-in QAM tuner it would receive HDTV just by plugging the cable signal into the antenna/cable coax jack. But when first turned on, it only received analog signals. Calling Comcast back, I was told that I would need a $7/month cable box. Fortunately this turned out to be baloney. While my wife was channel-flipping, she started getting HDTV stations too, and now it shows every analog and digital channel, even on my non-digital cable service plan. My wife claims full credit for "fixing" it. I suspect it took a while to lock into some aspect of the cable service. Who knows.

So here's two recommendations: Double check everything Comcast tells you. And buy this TV.

(Oh - and also see the reviews for the 19AV500U - it's the identical model in black.)

All 19 inch HDTV's regardless of brand have a 16:10 aspect ratio.
This is because 19 inch computer monitors are 16:10 and they out number televisions by the billions.
To keep the cost down TV makers buy the same LCD panels made for computer monitors. Unless you would pay $1000 for a 19 inch set, I doubt any company will ever custom order a 16:9 panel for television manufacture.
A lot of these TV's can be set to 16:9. There will be a small black bar on the right and left edges since the panel is wider. But a lot of people hate the black bar, so there you go..
The reviewer here who was returning the TV because of this "defect" will be sadly disapointed when he buys a new 19 inch set and discovers it is also 16:10

Wow. This has been a great experience. The picture is drop-dead beautiful. The sound quality is good too. Paying $679 is wonderful. TV was delivered within a few days. Super easy to plug in and play. Remote is logical. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Strongly recommend getting an HDMI cable (under $10 now) since the box doesn't include video cables.

Update to Review: Once in a while we turn on the tv and the sound comes on with no picture. Luckily when it's turned off and back on it usually comes on okay. Personally I don't think one brand is really better than the next for reliability purposes. The newer tv's just break easier. My suggestion is, if you plan on keeping a newly purchased tv for a long time, get a service agreement. I'm one of those people who NEVER buys a service agreement, but for tv's I would reconsider that.

Original Review: I looked at a lot of tv's before I bought this one. It had a picture closest to the top end tv's but a reasonable price. I bought it in a local store and was able to get the box in the back seat of my economy car and drive it home without a problem. I am SO impressed with the clarity of the Hi-Def picture, along with pretty good sound. The sleek black "frame" makes the picture look even better. This one is a no-brainer. I haven't owned it that long; if any issues arise, I will update my review. So far I am extremely impressed.

Just got this TV yesterday. Ordered from Amazon on Thursday and it arrived Monday. What service! The Hi Def channels are great clear crisp and bright. I did not connect the set to my HD cable box. The auto tune picked up 26 digital channels directly from cable. I don't think I'll bother with a cable box on this set unless I decide I would like to watch the encoded channels. SD is good and about what you would expect. Sound is good, perfect for a bedroom. The remote and menu set up is simple and intuitive
The price is very competitive and good value for the money. At this stage I am pleased with the purchase.
I would recommend this set to anyone looking for a 32 inch LCD TV at a reasonable price

This is my first HDTV, got it for $679 + tax from Amazon over thanksgiving.

Initially I was a little skeptical because of the low price tag and lack of reviews but I decided to take the plunge and buy it coz Toshiba is an old and reputed brand.

Pros:
- The picture quality is simply amazing on this TV. Blacks are pitch black and the colors are sharp.
- Blu ray DVD's are crystal clear at 1080p.
- Response time, while not great has not been a hindrance in gaming so far (GTA IV and LittleBigPlanet on PS3)
- It was extremely easy to set up. Remove packaging, screw in stand, plug power and you're good to go.
- Lots of HDMI inputs (3). I have a PS3 and an upconverting DVD player plugged to two slots. will be plugging in my desktop to the third one once I get my DVI-HDMI cable.
- PC VGA input with stereo sound jack, makes it easy to plug in laptops.
- Sleek stylish looks.
- Remote buttons glow faintly in the dark :)

Cons:
- A little on the heavy side compared to the newer flat screens, It weighed around 50lbs+, I was able to lift it alone onto a VESA mount around 4.5ft in height but I lift weights.
- The picture is a little too dark, I've been fiddling with the picture settings but I haven't been able to get a perfect balance of light and dark.
Had to turn up the brightness considerably while watching some dark movies like Underworld.
- Mediocre sound, would recommend investing in a surround sound system.
- PC VGA input doesn't go beyond 1368x768, haven't tried a dvi to hdmi yet.
- Screen is a little reflective, tubelights especially messed up the picture completely.

Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase, can't beat the features at this price for a 1080p.

I bought this TV for our bedroom two weeks ago based on the price and the positive reviews I read about it. I was a little skeptical that such a low-priced LCD could provide the kind of quality I was looking for but this is the real deal. The picture is bright and crisp even using the component cables I'm stuck with until my new HDMIs arrive. There's definitely some motion blur and the sound is above average at best, but think it would be tough to find a better value than the RV525U at the current $700-$750 range.

I recently purchased this tv about 2 weeks ago. I had about a 1 and a half month long process of comparing/contrasting tv's. I compared the samsung 40 inch a550 to this one. only big difference is contrast ratio. 30,000:1 (samsung) 15,000:1 (toshiba). as well as $80 price difference. I finally came to a final decision on the toshiba. I went to a local best buy and compared the toshiba to other top of the line lcd's (sony, samsung). I virtually saw no difference in the picture. I also have my blu ray player hooked up via hdmi. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!! the picture is awesome. my xbox 360 looks absolutely stunning as well. the reviews are true that the sound on this tv is not up to par. but not many lcd's have great speakers because of the small size the speakers need to be to fit in tv. Which is why home theatre systems were invented, problem solved! I definetly recommend this tv to anyone looking to stay around th $700 range. its the best lcd you can purchase in this price range! I'd save yourself a $100 bucks or so and try out this toshiba! you will not be dissapointed!

I just got this TV when Amazon dropped the price. I am very pleased with it, its a terrific value. The picture is amazing, its highly energy efficient costing only $1.14 a month to operate based on 6 hours viewing a day. Its an Energy Star TV. Sound is also good for what it is it has 2 X 5 watt speakers. I saw the other review here and am a little perplexed as I've found this TV to be a great value for a standard 26" LCD TV which is what it is. I'd highly recommend it.

I purchased mine from best buy as I work at the store. I use it in my room so I can watch movies and stuff when my roommates are watching reality TV or something else stupid.

Either way,...

Pro's:
-Great sound considering the size of the speakers, I would compare this to Sony Tv's to be honest. Can not get as loud, but same quality.
-No glare at all. the matte finish diffuses all the light which is great.

Cons:
-Black level detail. In darker scenes/games you will lose much detail, but that is because of the matte finish. Its a trade-off for not having to deal with glare.
-No optical out, meaning if you have a cheap-o home theater in a box with only 1 optical input, you will be limited for surround sound.

The 5 star reasoning: The black level details are not up to par in my book. Maybe this is unfair because I sell TV's all day and see the best, but I think it could be better. Maybe not for the price though. Which is why I still gave it 5. I think the average user would never notice and would be very happy.

I compared the picture quality of the Toshiba 19AV600U side by side with Samsung (at our local Best Buy) after tweaking both to their maximum quality and the Toshiba had truer colors with accurate flesh tones, probably due to the 10 bit color. The sound was also much better (and louder) than other TV's of the same size. If you can live without the headphone jack, then this will be a great choice, especially for a small bedroom or kitchen.

One more thing that impressed me and my daughter was how the TV cleaned up the standard analog cable channels, apparently due to the noise reduction feature, which we put on high. Some of the channels even look as good as digital or HD. The 19AV600U also has (2) HDMI jacks and is a great looking little TV even when it's off. We mostly buy SONY but was settling for Samsung (since Sony is not that impressive in this size range) until I ran across this little jewel.

I purchased this TV after much comparison shopping and reading of reviews of various models on Amazon and other web sites. I settled on this model and am very pleased. I use the TV in our kitchen and it has an excellent picture (given the price) and I have not encountered any issues with sound volume. The sound could be criticized as being a little "tinny", but, that said, I would not count this as a material criticism. Frankly, you might consider getting the 22" model if it fits both your budget and the space that you have. In conclusion, you should not hesitate to purchase this TV. Note, however, that I found the TV at a slightly cheaper price at Fry's (in-store price not on-line price).

Started looking for a television to replace an older model. Went to Best Buy to compare picture and sound quality side by side, and settled on this model. The ability to change the framing of the picture allows each individual to see what style they prefer, at the click of a button. The color quality is a true color representation, and again it is easy to change the brightness if you like. We chose to mount it on the wall, and with the thickness of just over an inch, it is not in the way when walking in front of it.

Amazon had the best price, by $50 over Best Buy when we were looking, and we were well satisfied with the delivery. Ordered at 5:00 p.m. one day, and had received it by noon the following day.

Would highly recommend this model to anyone.

The real question for me was passive 3D quality. The result is similar to shutter glasses. If there is reduced video quality I can't see it. The polarized glasses included with the set (4 pairs) are of good quality. I purchased several pairs of used Real D glasses online and they feel a little sturdier(paid $.90 per pair delivered). The other basics: 1080p as good as any TV I've seen, good 480i picture, basic(but passable) TV sound, easy setup and a nice backlit remote. Wireless access to some web content, One button to access netflix. Easy access to youtube and a few other video services. Widget availability is almost laughable. Can't find true access to the web. 2D to 3D conversion is interesting. Not really 3D, but adds a little something to baseball. I was a little worried about the size (in 3d size does matter), but the 3D is good quality from approx 5 to 12 feet. The darker the room the better.

Was waiting for a 42 inch from LG but couldnt wait anymore. I was afraid this wouldnt have an 'in your face' 3d effect I saw from an LG in bestbuy. But after playing the same LG 3d demo, I am impressed. Ive been using the tv for 3 days now, 3d and 2d is great. Some cons - it takes about 15 seconds to turn on, and sound is not too good. 3d effect on this tv is much better than in the theaters. I recieved the tv the next day. Highly recommended!

This being my first Full HDTV that I personally purchased, I was absolutely blown away by the picture quality compared to the 55" LCD Samsung HDTV that my parents own. I would definitely recommend users to buy this product because of its picture quality and top of the line features. The 3D experience is great and the 2D to 3D conversion is also very good but there is a clear difference which is to be expected. The NetTV apps also works great. The only con would be a 15-20 sec start up time delay but that doesn't really bother me too much. Undoubtedly 5/5!

We bought this TV from tigerdirect here on Amazon after some research.Great picture and we were happy with it until the unit crapped out on us after owning it for 6weeks.The lcd panel went bad according to Toshiba tech rep in India (good luck if you have to call them!!). Called Tiger Direct and they would do nothing for us.They WOULD sell us another TV and give us free shipping!!! You can guess what i told them to do!! Next I tried toshiba customer service and they wont replace the TV unless it is deemed"unrepairable". I actually got to talk to somebody in the states and they were no help.Next, I tried to get the thing repaired by the local Toshiba service rep and it seems that the part is currently unavailable and he wont know how long it will take to get or even if he can get it. So I will never buy a Toshiba product again and Tiger direct will never see me again. These ----- companies will take your $$$ in a NY minute but there customer service is Non existant!!! Do yourself a favor and spend a couple extra bucks and buy from your nearest Mom and POP store!!! At least you can keep the $$$ in your community and have a face to talk to when things go wrong!!! signed,MadasHell

Saw this tv in an ad for 749.99 1-01-12 did some research and decided to purchase, I have found you will drive yourself crazy with professional reviewers since most everything is based on intricate measuring instruments now if they flat out say its junk I believe them. anyways after setting up the set I started to wonder if I made the right chose, since instructions are weak... but I started troubleshooting what I thought was a poor picture and found that everything that contributed to it was not the settings in the tv rather all of the settings in the dish/cable box once I set my receiver box to the correct settings and installed a new hdmi cable the picture on this set is MIND BLOWING... makes it seem as if your in the studio watching them film the episode or news events... I watched Avatar on dvd and was stunned with the picture I then watched the movie 2012 on a HD dish station and it seemed as if the plane was coming out of the screen at you!! Sound is decent but I am using a home theater anyways. I would strongly recommend this product, and if anyone that does purchase has image problems check all of you box/receiver settings before you give it up... I am extremely happy with this unit

I spent weeks shopping for televisions. I visited many different stores. I had decided on buying a 60" Sharp LED that was priced at $999. I was told it was not in stock. I came back to look again, and was once again disapointed.

This Toshiba television also was priced $999. Clearly the Sharp was a better TV for the money.

The employee at the store told me they had an open box that didnt fit into the customers living space and would sell it to me for $699. Great deal! I took it home and hooked it up.

TO BREAK IT DOWN
If you have $1000 to spend on a TV, there are better options.
If you can find a deal on this TV for what I paid, $699, you should buy it.

PROS:

*Clean Design

*Solid Construction

*3 HDMI Ports

*1 Optical Audio Out

*Link system that allows remote control to function on HDMI connected devices (NOT XBOX 360, but works great on my Sony Blue Ray Home Theater)

*Flawless 1080p Picture

*Very Decent 120Hz

*Not a plasma

*No nonsense menu navigation

*Simple Easy to use remote

*Blue Ray disk looks great, Xbox looks great, HD broadcast looks great.

CONS:

*Any non HD input or standard definition really looks terrible on this large 55" screen. 720p input at minimum is required for a decent picture.

*Speakers are weak. Fortunatly you can turn them off, and make the volume from the remote control your home theater volume instead!

*Picture angle could be significantly improved. Looks great head on. I do notice fading from the side view though (Deep blacks begin to turn grey).

*Initially I had a GREEN Screen from xbox source. After investigation, changing the xbox HD output color settings fixed this immediatly, no fault of the TV.

*Factory picture settings are poor, fine tuning does resolve this but takes a few attempts to get it right.

Additional thoughts:

If you have a modern home theater system, xbox 360, or PS3 that run internet applications like Netflix, Facebook, Hulu, Pandora, etc... Do not waste you hard earned money on buying a TV with these options also. This TV is a great display for all your current gadgets to operate on. It would likely make a weak package all by itself though.

Even though my sony home theater supports 3D, I just find the whole 3D thing a hoax and refuse to participate in wearing goofy glasses for my home entertainment. It is simply not worth it to me to spend hundreds more for 3D.

PC running HDMI out looks fantastic.

I use mine for mainly Sports / Gaming / Blu Ray / Netflix / Hulu and am more than pleased with all the pictures these provide.

After a long time waiting and searching and waiting I finally pulled the trigger on this TV. The sound is pretty poor as other reviewers have stated but I run our sound through the stereo system so it didn't really matter. Picture is very good, especially for the price. Good contrast and not a lot of fade when viewing from the side. If I used the sound I would likely have considered sending it back. But it's the perfect TV for what we use it for.

You can't argue with the picture for the price. There are very few models offering 1080 resolution on a 40 inch screen for right around $400. This TV is easy to set up and the picture is terrific. The only significant drawback is the audio. I had to max the bass and completely take out the treble, then crank the volume all the way, just to make it passable.
Why they couldn't include an analog audio output is beyond me. I didn't intend to have to upgrade my entire home entertainment system just to buy a new TV. So now I'll have to drop anywhere from $40 to $100 for a digital to analog converter for my stereo or a basic sound bar just so I can get decent audio. Suddenly the terrific price for the TV looks more like a so-so price.
If you already have optical digital audio equipment then this is not a concern to you; in which case I heartily recommend this TV for the video. If you still have an analog home audio system -- and you don't plan to upgrade soon -- consider the extra cost you'll need to enjoy this TV with your stereo or powered speakers.

TV arrived with no problems. Great TV - beautiful picture, nice remote, and decent sound. We hung ours on a bracket and it was easy. This is a great TV for the price and will hold its own against others costing much more. It's not as thin as the newer LED LCD models but so what! You won't go wrong with this model.

I guess I'll break the ice and be the first to review this TV.
I searched for a decent 37" TV at a reasonable price and looked at several different brands. I almost bought a Vizio because of the price, but then I found this Toshiba for less than 600$. Here is what I can say about it so far:
This TV has a very good picture especially on the Directv hi-def channels. It has some interesting features that I have not yet used such as:
the ability to play picture files (like a giant digital photo frame, and
the ability to play MUSIC files, like a giant Mp3 player.
When I press the "mute" (to mute the sound)button, it will mute half way, then another press of the button mutes the sound completely.
It has a computer terminal for connecting a PC.
It has 4 HDMI inputs.

The reason I gave this TV 4 stars is the viewing angles--like most LCDs, you need to sit almost directly in front of the screen. If you try and watch it too far off to one side, the colors get a bit washed out.
For an auxillary TV, this one fits the bill. My home theatre TV is a 50" plasma, and that TV blows this one away. But if you just want a fairly large TV for everyday watching and not the whole "home theatre" experience, you will be pleased with this unit. I think Toshiba is a decent brand and most of the reviews on other Toshiba models have been pretty good.

I just purchased this TV to replace my Samsung 27" tube HDTV which was an absolute beast (147 lbs!). This TV is WONDERFUL! It's the 3rd Toshiba LCD in my house (also have a 32" in my bedroom and a 19" in the home office). The picture is crystal clear with rich, bright, vibrant colors. I watch a lot of sports and play video games on this TV and it performs great for both. There aren't noticeable tracers when watching fast action. I wish it had a regular a/v sound output (red & white), but it only offers a digital audio output which doesn't work w/ my out-dated receiver (not the TV's fault). I compared this side-by-side to LG's similarly priced 37" model and it blew the LG away. The picture was brighter, clearer, and lost less quality at an angle. I've noticed some reviews that are critical of the TV's sound, but I'm not having any issues with it. I'm sure it doesn't compare to the sound quality of a home theatre system, but it isn't any worse than any other TV I've owned. If you're looking to get the most bang for your buck on a moderately priced lcd TV, this is the one.

I'll keep this one short and sweet. Ive had this TV for several weeks now, and couldn't be happier.

The picture is awesome. Our other TV is a Samsung 40 inch, which is another highly rated LCD, and I made my own comparison by watching a Stanley Cup Hockey game on both TV's and could not tell any difference. A Hockey game broadcast in HD is a very good test for your TV's clarity, and this Toshiba did not disappoint.

The dynamic aspect ratio works great.

The fact that Toshiba doesn't publish the contrast ratio should not be a deterrent for getting this TV. Contrast ratio is a marketing gimmick, and the determination should be that if you look at the picture, and it looks great to your eyes, who cares what the actual contrast ratio is? The blacks look black, and the whites look white, and there isn't much more to worry about.

Good price for a great TV!

I was finally ready to purchase a HDTV and went down to the local Best Buy because the the great financing of 2 yrs same as cash and sales they had this Memorial Day. I was interested in the 42" Sharp Aquios LCD 1080p before I was on my way down to the store to view all TVs in person. When I got there I saw the other tv I i was slightly interested in to compare it to the Aquios was the Toshiba REGZA 1080p and was blown away by the resolution of the promo they were playing on HD DVD, the price and of course 3 yrs same as cash pan they had on Toshiba tvs. Needless to say I was sold! I got the TV for $1519(minus tax) score. I am a big fan of Toshiba from the TV I replaced which I bought in winter of 2000 which has never given me problems. While I was there I picked my Toshiba HD-A20 1080p HD DVD palyer to replace my original DVD player that I had purchased back in 1999 and paid $400 for, and agian never gave me any problems. Viewing both "Phantom of the Opera" and "Corpse Bride" were amazing at 1080p and I'm a stickler on resolution. Needless to say I side with Toshiba there products and HD DVD. I am at this moment extremely happy with my purchase.

I bought my Tv 2 weeks ago after much research...

It totally exceeds expectations when viewing TRUE HiDef 1080I
(1920 X 1080 pixel channels)
It has SIX viewing modes so you can always get full screen projection
whether 480I or 1080I

Though it is "cable ready", in order to utilize it's 1080I capabilities,
I had to upgrade to a HD cable box (includes TIVO and 2 tuner recording which is great) $75.00 mo FULL SERVICE
The 480I digital channels vary widely in picture quality from POOR to VG**
The 1080I HiDEF channels are truly STUNNING

*note: the cable guy used a coaxial cable from the new box to the TV
I suggested he use a HDMI cable and the difference was noticable
** I have UPGRADED my HDMI to HDMI cable @eforcity
*AMAZON (6ft $3.12) EXCELLENT for all needs
It has significantly reduced the cable noise and improved
480I reception

This is a TV built for the future with FULL 1080P capability

The 3 HDMI ports are v1.3
*I confirmed this with tech at Toshiba
(they are listed as 1.0 on many sites)
This is IMPORTANT

If you combine it with a TOSHIBA A-20 upconverting 1080P HD-DVD player HDMI v1.2a($320) or
SONY Playstation 3 HDMI v1.3($500) or BETTER ...
WAIT until October 31st, when the NEW Blu-ray players
or the 4th generation HD DVD come out,
you will have a terrific system for under $2000 that will not be obsolete in 3 years and utilize the full 1080P potential of this incredible HDTV
*Make sure to use 24 bit/pixel high quality cables

It was ready out of the box:
The ONLY adjustment I have made is to increase the Bass setting to 65
(the sound is VERY GOOD)

note:
I purchased a MONSTER HDTV Calibration Wizzard on EBAY for $2.50
I have NO green tint and the blacks are true...as are ALL the colors
I made NO color adjustment as was recommended, only contrast and brightness

I could not be more satisfied

UPDATE 9/3/07

It is clear from the reviews and my own experience that this HDTV does NOT
distinguish itself with older equipment, broadcasts in 480I, OR with antenna
Even the broadcasts I get on cable in 1080I from my local stations
are not 100%
HOWEVER
When using the HDMI connections in FULL 1080I
from national networks: Discovery PBS FOOD NETWORK ESPN NBC ABC CBS etc

IT IS INCREDIBLE !!!!

For movies or gaming in 1080P you will need a upgraded DVD player or
playstation 3 (check specs & compatibility)

Just purchased this TV in May '07 and am very pleased so far with the purchase. I read the previous review and I guess I can see that it's not the most premier picture in the HD universe, but it is still pretty outstanding.

The key here for 5 stars is value - for around 1600 with shipping or tax you're getting a 42" flat panel with 1080P (built for the future). It's also Toshiba's 3rd generation technology whereas many of the Bravias and Sharps are still on their 2nd generation.

So, while maybe not the top 1% of HD pictures and at times you see some pixelation (very minor, possibly due to the inferiority of the source) it costs less than half of some of those monitors. If you're looking for great value this is the TV - remember that you'll pay about $125 for nice HDMI cables to hook it up properly and you can get the whole package for a great deal.

I was looking for a 32" LED TV for the bedroom but had very limited height space. I looked for a long time and came up with only a few choices. I picked this unit because of the sound leveling feature (was tired of loud commercials at night). Also wanted a TV with a narrow bezel. The TV arrived in less than 24 hrs. .... GREAT. It installed perfectlly using the mounting stand. Its been only 3 or 4 weeks now but everything works great. The picture while not as good as my 26" Sony LCD Bravia or 58" Panasonic plasma is very good. Also, the sound leveling feature really does work.

I am sorry for the person that wrote this first review. The Toshiba LED TV product is one of the best on the market. See the electonic website reviews like cnet. we just got the 40". We Have ATT Uverse. It is AWESOME. The graphics, sound, i cant Say enough about it. It really does look like the people are right there in the room with you. Maybe you need to work on your settings and learning how to use it. We have a Samsung before this. And we have not had any problems with the remote although we have to use the ATT remote for most functions, which is fine, but the toshiba remote is just fine too. We got it direct from Toshiba because we didnt want to wait. Evidently they are pretty popular.

The shipping was fine, got it when promised. This set has a good picture and sound. However setting it up was difficult because it does not come with a users manual. You have to go on line to get it. Also the stand is very flimsy and cheap. Also like other reviewers I find the remote is cheap. I compare it to one you get at the dollar store. As other reviews have stated the set does freeze at times when changing channels. But for $249.00 it is not a bad TV.

The picture is outstanding and very natural, Great contrast, whites are super white and blacks are very deep. Menu buttons are very responsive, no delay. Thin frame and a sturdy stand.

For the price nothing came close in comparison that is 120hz l.e.d less than 2" thick with clear frame technology.

The clear frame technology works great but works via HDMI not the dvi pc connection. Whats cool about it is that you can have something in clear frame mode AND then set the degree of "camera stabilization", between smooth, standard and off. So you can avoid the complete soap opera effect by setting it to off instead of smooth.

Blue Ray video is jaw dropping indeed, with the clear frame technology applied over Planet Earth the picture seems ultra real and life like.

There are a few things about it that are small inconveniences but definitely pale in comparison to the overall deal.

-Each input saves display preferences EXCEPT for Game mode
-no dedicated game mode button, access quickly through menu.
-no start up sound; I enjoyed my Samsung's jingle to confirm the button press was received.

I use this as my pc monitor connected via HDMI.
$650 after tax from Best Buy.
I had to do a lot of color calibrating but I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.
I hope this helps as there are not many reviews out about this model.

Enjoy it!

The thing that attracted me to this tv is the fact that it has 3 HDMI inputs while most tv's in this range only offer 2. I really don't understand the thinking that goes behind selling higher end TV's with more HDMI connections. If the tv has internet connectivity built in, that is one LESS HDMI connection that is required, but if you are like me and want to add a streaming network player, you need that extra HDMI connection if you already are using the other 2 for BluRay and satellite receivers.

The 2nd selling point was that the screen, while not truly a matte finish, is still much less reflective than the other top brands, especially LG. This was a big consideration for me, as my tv room has a lot of windows.

I love the TV's appearance. It is very thin with a modern look. The picture quality is great, and I like the movie mode for watching movies and normal tv dramas and sitcoms, while the 120hz ClearFrame is great for sports, especially fast action sports like Supercross and Formula One.

The reason I don't give it 5 stars is the remote. It is crappy looking and feeling, the buttons are bizarrely either over-sensitive or under-sensitive when using the onscreen prompts. Really hit or miss. It needs a better remote, and I am thinking about trying one from the L6200U series when my local big-box store gets them in to see if it will work with the L5200U series as well.

One tip: Make sure you download and flash the firmware upgrade from Toshiba's website before you try to scan for local channels with the tuner.

This is a very nice tv, and I got it at a very good price. At first I didn't think the picture was very clear, but then I exchanged my old cable box for an HDTV cable box (free exchange at the cable company). Now the picture is amazingly bright and clear. I adjusted the color a bit, and it's perfect!

I bought this TV because I had a size limitation inside a cabinet. Most of the big named TV manufacture’s had a physically larger size that this Toshiba 32L2200U TV. This TV a great buy for use in the kids room, dorm room or kitchen. I say this because it is great for movies and games. The optional game mode can speed up the TVs processing which is great especially for any online games. The 1080p and LED lighting work well together to create great pictures and decent blacks and whites for a TV so low in price. The TV also has a Dynamic Picture Mode which helps clean up the picture and color when watching a movie of television show.
The sound on this TV is fine for small applications. Toshiba uses what they call "Audyssey Premium" to help the sound quality, and although I can't say that it makes the audio better, I can say that I have no negative comments about the sound and that is a big plus. The Audyssey Premium may really shine when hooked up to external speakers, but due to its small size I have no intentions of ever installing external speakers.
The only complaint I have with this unit is the auto dimming feature that is suppose to save energy and the life of the screen. It does not adjust the back light gracefully, so if the room lighting changes a noticeable jump up or down in screen brightness occurs. You then have to readjust your eyes to the screen which is kind of annoying. This feature is best turned off unless it is in a room without ambient light changes.
Overall this TV provides great picture and sound for a very reasonable price. Five Stars.

My old SONY (trinatron) died and I made the choice to go to a new LED TV.

The TV arrived and I carried it to my bedroom with one hand. I wrestled the SONY to the floor, as it must have weighed over 50 pounds. In its place went the new set that is as light as a feather.

The set up was easy. It popped to life and what a beautiful picture! So sharp. I had thought I needed glasses with the old set but now everything is sharp and clear and easy to read. Sponge Bob is a whole new experience. What colors! The 1080P is the way to go!

The sound seems great to me. Maybe I'm not to fussy. I had read that others said the older model had bad sound.

The only little thing is it is hard to view from the side. It must be the LED thing.

I thought the 24" screen would be to small. I adjusted the picture size and I am happy.

I picked up this 24" Toshiba LED essentially as an impulse purchase to replace an old 17" Insignia in my bedroom. My wife and I are just not that picky when it comes to tv's in the bedroom. Actually, she's not, so I just bought something relatively small for a cheap price; I paid approx. $220.00 @ BestBuy. After reading some other posts I see I could have paid less, but as I said, this was totally an impulse purchase and I literally just picked it up on my way out of the store based on a quick, glancing view of the picture...and the price. Oh, and I quite literally mean "just picked up" because this thing is truly a lightweight. Well, long story short, I am incredibly satisfied with this television. I would consider the picture very good if it cost twice what I paid. The picture is just flat out good and very adjustable to individual tastes. I can't comment on sound; I have it connected to an old Bose 321 in the room which is still superior to most in-tv audio even on much more fancier LED's. And just as a sidenote, we just bought a Sony 55" XBR. Flagship series for Sony, with price to match. Amazing picture, though. I only mention that because before buying this Toshiba I did an incredible amount of research on LEDS, (ultimately we went with the Sony XBR because of an employee discount, not necessarily because it was the best 55" LED, but it's definitely close). So, basically, I don't know if I just got lucky with this Toshiba, or if all that research gave me some super human ability to spot a tv with a great picture at a great price. But whether it did or not, that's what I wound up with. So if you're looking for a new LED of a smaller size you should definitely check this model out. For the price, you don't get features like internet connectivity (but you could always just connect it to a blu-ray player that does get a lot of streaming services), but if you're really just concerned with a great picture at a great price give this Toshiba a long look.

The 24" screen is perfect for our kitchen and the picture is truly spectacular. However the sound is just terrible. There is no distortion through the volume range, but the sound is incredibly tinny and phone-like. I am being totally serious in saying my bedside clock AM radio sounds better than this TV. That is what I don't get with the sub-29" TV market. They will mostly be used in locations where there is no room or need for a home theater system, and yet clearly the audio is an afterthought.

So ok, I can maybe find space to install a PC speaker system to make the TV listenable, but it only has line-out audio jacks, so the TV remote will not control the volume, and there is no headphone jack.
This is such a glaring problem on small TVs, that I am amazed, or more accurately, annoyed it has not been addressed. I will have to return this TV.

Have you noticed it is impossible to evaluate the sound of a TV in a store where they have 100 TVs on and all tuned to the same channel?

UPDATE: Returned the Toshiba after one week. I just could not get used to the audio. I got the 26" LG LED LCD. Sooo much better audio, and with a headphone jack in case I do want to upgrade the sound, but don't think I will need to. It cost an extra $100 over the 24" Toshiba, but the only add-on powered speaker system I could find with a wireless remote was the ZVOX Mini for $199. Made no sense

We purchased this TV at a big box store, despite the poor reviews we read regarding the sound of the speakers. The salesman insisted that it would sound just fine in our average size, quiet bedroom. BIG MISTAKE! Are you old enough to remember transistor radios? Cause that is the sound quality that this TV's speakers produce. We were replacing our old 19" box-type TV that had great sound so the difference was really noticeable. We even tried to tweek it by raising up the bass and lowering the treble but it still sounds hollow. There are much better TV's on the market to buy

I bought this set from Pauls TV thru Amazon, it took 9 days to deliver, threshhold delivery(no help),luckily it was light enough for me to handle myself. It came in it's original box with no additional packing or protection.
Setup was simple and it found my home network quickly, Netflix was up and running with no problem.
The picture quality while viewing hi-def material thru my Direct-TV box is simply stunning. Rich colors, deep blacks with none of the soap opeara effects I see on my 42 inch bedroom set. Sporting events are fantastic, no blurr whatsoever.
I have 3 or 4 3-D channels available and can tell you the effct is amazing! The glasses are light and fit over my regular glasses comfortably. I wasn't able to get the Hubble 3-D disc to play properly tho, it had double side to side images I could'nt format correctly, I can only hope other 3-D discs work ok.(played thru a brand new 3-D Panasonic blue-ray player)
I found leaving the set on standard mode delivers the best picture quality on all material I've viewed so far, tho some may prefer a brighter setting.
All in all I am delighted with this set and highly recommend it, you could pay alot more for other popular brands and not have the picture quality of this tv.

Hi, I never usually write a review but in this instance I had to make an exception. I got this tv at its lowest price in months and seemed satisfied that not many reviewers had mentioned the 120hz refresh rate being a problem. Saying that the picture was amazing and 3d almost tangible. Well I can attest that both the picture and 3d are amazing on this tv, provided the screen does not move. This tv is terrible in dealing with motion. In fact sometimes the slower the movement the worse the blur. The 3d is nearly unwatchable in movies as the amount of blurring during movement gives you a seasick feeling after about 5 minutes. I tried 6-7 different style movies from Nitro Circus, Harry Potter, Avatar, The Smurfs & Jean-Michael Cousteau's 3 movies. They all gave the same amount of blurring. Unwatchable. I have even watched in cinema mode as this is the way it is supposedly shown in 120hz and it looks the same, no difference blur. I also dont like that the back of the TV shows this tv's refresh rate as being 60hz. In talking to a Toshiba help person over the phone, it was explained to me that my tv had a 60hz board and used the clearscan technology to improve it to 120hz. However, the HDMI display when shown shows it only to be at 60hz as well. And nothing under the display options about clear scan or how to turn it on. This performs like all other 60hz tv's I have seen, and if this is in fact 120hz then a minimum of 240hz is needed for 3d viewing and sports. I returned this set with amazon's wonderful return policy and bought a Samsung 60 E7100 instead, where this problem is said to be a thing of the past with the 720 CMR on this set making it at least on par with plasmas 600hz and still pay in my price range $1700 for a set worth at least 2500. Read my review of that set later.

Over the past few years I have upgraded all the TV's in the house to high definition, probably much like everyone else. This Toshiba was the last addition and not even near the most expensive. It has the best picture, with the most options and out performs the other three TV's by far.

Cannot say enough good stuff!

We purchased this TV, after deciding that we weren't interested in having our "smart" TV built in. We have an Apple Smart TV, and can always consider upgrades to this (developing and fairly inexpensive) technology. Our Sony dvd player handles our streaming needs quite well; so, otherwise what we wanted was a quality TV with a beautiful picture, as well as enough inputs/outputs to give us flexibility with our needs.
This Toshiba (32L1350U) is truly a beautiful set - especially for the price! (I went ahead and took Amazon's credit card and received the $50 gift certificate - so that came off the price.) This TV has true stereo analog outputs (full size - not a single, mini-"headphone" jack, audio output), so you can easily go through a stereo receiver to quality speakers. Otherwise, 3 HDMI jacks (cable box, dvd player, etc.); as well as a PC port, and a USB, if you must use it as a computer monitor.
It has absolutely beautiful color definition, a small frame - so a maximum viewing area, and the built-in speakers are really quite good! We were happy that we could still get full analog stereo, output capability and all the features of a current HD television.

This Toshiba 39L1350U TV has lots of features.

Picture quality is good via HD/HDMI, 480i via standard cable not so good and overscan can occur. Native mode aka 1:1 pixel is great, for 720 plus signals or hdmi. No program ratio mode. Color accuracy is above average. Brightness ability is good. Black ability is below average. HDMI sound level is low.

Digital comb/mpeg filter is subpar. Noise is noticeable for some signals.

This TV has ONE button ratio access, 3 theater mode with position adjust. Edge enhancer mode is nice. Deep color adjust system. Neat feature is 'freeze', you can freeze the pic and the sound of the show will go on. To toggle between 60hz and 120hz use cinema mode off/on. Old DVD players look good, if using AV then change Option/input/av to av instead of colorstream. Get upconvert player or Blu-ray, hdmi is the way to go.

Sound is pretty good, clean and clear. Only 14 watts.

Computer hookup is excellent, get a hdmi cable. Internet sites look good, words are clear. Games look good. This TV is good for computer, it can recognize many formats.

Production date: Jan 2013 China. Btw this tv is on sale from bestbuy for less than 350.

Picture: 3/5
Sound: 4/5
Features: 5/5
Easy of use: 5/5

I picked this up for less than 200 bucks on sale. I'm not much of a TV watcher and I don't even have cable TV. I just watch PBS and special yearly events like the Oscars and the Rose Parade off my antenna. Mostly I watch movies off my Blu-Ray player. This TV was bought to replace my old 26" LCD Panasonic Viera (about six years old). The picture quality of this LED TV is definitely superior to what I had and it's nice that I get 31.5" inches of screen in the same space of my bookcase that used to hold my 26" TV. Sound quality is solid, and the digital tuner is also superior to the old one on my Panasonic (I'm getting clear reception on channels that used to be sketchy). The one thing that is inferior is the time lag in changing channels; it's a bit longer with this TV, but nothing ridiculous in terms of a wait. This unit also has a glossy screen, and personally I prefer matte screens. My TV isn't near a window, so any glare is minor, but if you plan to watch this TV during the day and your house gets lots of light, you might prefer a different model.

The remote is fairly intuitive. The only complaint I have is that this unit didn't come with a hard copy manual. I had to download one off the internet. That's being a little too cheap in my opinion. But other than that, I'd say that this TV is an excellent value.
